Allergy and Sinus Relief Center
Sinusallergysite.com is an online store specializing in natural products (non-pharmaceutical) which help the sinus and allergy sufferer minimize their exposure to common allergens such as mold and mildew, dust mites, pet dander, pollen, and household dust. Our brick and mortar store, the Home Environment Center, in Rockford, Illinois, has been in business since 1996. We have worked closely with customers, who have given us honest feedback about our products. We only sell products that we have personally tested and which REALLY WORK!

In addition to allergy relief products, we look for unique household products that are well designed, affordable, and effective. Our site is constantly changing, so keep checking for all of our latest and greatest items.

SINUS PROBLEMS - Midwesterners are often accused of sounding "nasal" when they talk. This is no surprise, because most people consider the Midwest to be the SINUS CAPITOL of the country!!! Sinus problems result from chronic allergic reactions to common allergens like mold, pet dander, pollen, and dustmites, blocked sinus passages, polyps, and more...Sinus irrigation is an old remedy that is coming back in favor. Many doctors are recommending this simple procedure to loosen congestion in the sinus cavities, allowing them to drain. Reducing sinus congestion can help eliminate sinus headaches and infections.

The Neti Pot was the original irrigation device, often used by followers of Yoga. It was made of porcelain, was very heavy, somewhat expensive, and made a huge mess if it happened to be dropped on the bathroom floor! We now have lighter weight Neti Pots made of plastic. They look like a long horizontal teapot, without the lid. The saline solution goes in the Neti Pot and you tilt your head over the sink and gently pour it into the nasal passage on each side, tilting your head back to allow the solution to drain into the sinus cavities. We also now have small plastic squeeze bottles which accomplish the same thing. Most people tell us that both work well and it is just a matter of personal preference.

In addition to sinus irrigation kits, which include saline packets which can be mixed with water to make the solution, we highly recommend the nasal saline spray with Xylitol, XLEAR. Xylitol is a natural antibiotic and has been shown to be effective against the bacteria that cause sinus infections. The ideal solution for the sinus sufferer is to irrigate in the morning and evening, and to carry the XLEAR to be used as needed during the day. XLEAR is not habit forming, and can be used as often as needed. It clears the head, and allows drainage to occur. Our customers use this product before flying, and before scuba diving. This helps "equalize" the pressure in their ears.

DUST MITES AND DUST!!! - Dust mites are everywhere...in upholstery, blankets, carpet, bedding, pillows, mattresses, undergarments...you name it! Dust mites feast on the skin cells that people and animals shed. We can't get rid of them; we have to try to minimize our exposure to their allergen. It's not actually the dust mite that we react to - it's their waste! And we are talking about real small stuff! Dust mite poop is so small that it is nearly weightless. It takes just a small movement to cause it to fly up in the air and stay airborne for hours. When we toss and turn in bed, we stir up large quantities of this allergen. People who are allergic to dust mite allergen can have very poor sleep patterns if they are constantly awakened because they are stuffed up and can't breathe. Poor sleep patterns don't allow us to get the deep sleep we need to repair our immune system which is bombarded all day long by germs, pollution, and a smorgasboard of allergens. There are many ways we can minimize our exposure to dust mites and their waste.

The best place to start reducing dust mite allergens is in the bedroom because of the amount of time we spend in bed sleeping. Dust mites thrive and multiply most rapidly with moisture, heat and food. Your bed is their palace. They have the heat of your body, the moisture your body emits, and the food of your dead skin cells.

Mattress and Pillow Encasings - These are designed to slip over and zip along one edge, completely covering your mattress and pillows. The fabrics the encasings are made of are so tightly woven that the tiny dust mites and their debris cannot get through. It forms a barrier between your mattress and pillow and you! Regular vacuuming of the surface of the mattress and pillow encasings helps remove dust mites and their waste. Traditionally, allergists advised allergy sufferers to wash bedding (including mattress pads) in very hot water 140 degrees F for at least one hour to kill dust mites. However, De-Mite is a safe and convenient non-toxic alternative to hot water washing for killing dust mites. Just one capful in your washing machine will keep your decorative colored bedding from fading because it is effective in cold, warm, or hot water!!! And, you will save on your hot water bill.

Dustmite and Flea Control helps control dust mites and fleas in carpet, upholstery, drapes, pet bedding and sleeping areas. It comes as a powder in either 8 oz. or 2 lb. packages and can be mixed into a spray bottle or added to the carpet cleaning solutions used in carpet cleaning machines. Dustmite and Flea Control kills dust mites, is safe, and has been proven very effective in lowering dust mite populations.
